Strategy

Proven Strategy

We know that teachers are time bound. They have to cover a wide range of topics within a limited amount of time. During this time, students who may need more attention and explanations may get lost and fall behind. Likewise, students who may be advanced may be at risk of losing interest due to not feeling challenged with the material not advancing at their desired rate. Realizing this issue, the “MORE FOR LESS STRATEGY” was born. Our goal is to spend MORE time on creating a solid foundation and LESS time running through topics. For example, we would spend more time on multiplication, making sure the student has learned the material sufficiently, before moving on to division.

Proven Tutoring Process

Every student is UNIQUE with different skills, learning styles, and emotional intelligence. Our goal is to create an individualized tutoring plan that will best fit our students. We’ve developed our tutoring process in order to be efficient and effective.

  1. Parent Meeting: Tutors will meet with the parent and student for an introductory meeting.

  2. Initial 4 Part Assessment: Our assessment including the following pieces - an exam, writing piece, learning styles quiz, and social assessment.

  3. Teacher Reports and Report Cards: We give teachers a form to fill out that will inform our tutor of the current standing of the student and what areas should be focused on during tutoring. This is to better identify the areas of improvement of the student to then target them.

  4. Monthly Calls: Parents receive monthly calls to check in on how the tutoring is progressing and if there is any need of assistance or adjustments.

  5. Second Assessment: After two months of tutoring, tutors will assess their students again.

  6. Assessment Report: After the second assessment is given and graded, parents will receive an assessment report that will compare the scores from the 1st and 2nd assessments. It will also include some observations and and next steps.

  7. Workbooks: We use New York State Standards and Common Core Learning Standards based workbooks and other materials to enhance students’ skills in logical thinking and problem solving, mathematical skills, reading comprehension, reading levels, etc.

  8. Progression of Tutoring: Ongoing assessments will be given every two months and reports will be given to parents. An alliance with the primary teacher of the student will remain open to ensure progress in the classroom.
